Chinese Consulate Authentication

The Chinese Embassy and Consulates authenticate documents that are executed in Canada and will be used in China. Type of documents include:


Type A: Birth Certificate, Death Certificate, Working Experience and Professional Title, Kinship, Declaration and Affidavit of Financial Support, Marital Status, Marriage & Divorce Certificate, Personal Identification, etc. and documents concerning Adoption or Student's Admission.


Type B: Documents concerning Right of Inheritance, Power of Attorney, Wills and Housing Transfer Declaration, Estates and Properties, Trade Mark Registration.

 

Application Procedure:

Step  1  Document Translation
     Your documents must be in English for authentication. If your document is in Chinese other than English, please have your Chinese document translated by a certified translator.

Step  2  Document Notarization

    

Generally speaking, All documents must be notarized by a local notary public, including power of attorney, adoption papers, single status affidavit, birth/death certificate, marriage certificate, business license, graduation certificate and transcripts. There might be exceptions in some cases.  If you are not sure whether your document needs to be notarized, you can send us a copy of the document by email for confirmation.

Step  3   BC Provincial Authentication
     The next step is to have your notarized documents authenticated by BC Provincial Authentication Office. Only documents notarized in BC can be sent to Ministry of Justice in BC for provincial authentication.

In this case, please send us an ORIGINAL and a copy of your notarized document - keep the document stapled if the original document is stapled. Cost for this service is listed here.

Step  4  Chinese Consulate Authentication
  After certification by the Provincial Authentication office, your documents can be authenticated by the Chinese Consulate that holds consular jurisdiction over the province where the document is certified, in our case, Chinese Consulate in Vancouver.

Document Checklist:
  1) The ORIGINAL and a COPY of your documents - keep the document stapled if the original document is stapled.

2) A COPY of your passport information page and a copy of Canadian PR card if applicable.

3) Authentication and Notarization Application Form: Download here, print and sign it, one form per applicant

4) Service Order Form: Download, Complete Online and print it, one form per shipping address must be strictly followed when preparing the documents.

IMPORTANT: The Chinese Consulate will not process any document authentication and notarization if the document has exceeded 3 months since it is legalized by the local provincial authorities.

What Happens Next?
  Once our staff received your package, we will confirm upon receipt with an email. We will process your application after making sure your application packet is complete. After it is done by the Chinese Consulate, we will courier back to you and an email with a tracking number will be sent to you shortly after.
